The Interfraternity Council (IFC) at Culver-Stockton College is making a return, bringing an old energy and purpose to the campus’s fraternities. As the governing body for the college’s fraternities, IFC must share very important values and stay critical of its own members.
At a national level, the IFC can establish its own values to promote fraternity unity. For the most part, it relates to how fraternities perform in the classroom and how each fraternity carries itself in a public setting. Also, with the IFC, accountability between organizations becomes of the utmost importance since it allows for unbiased resolutions.
Recently, an email was sent to all fraternity members announcing the reinstatement of the IFC. With this reinstatement comes the council’s renewed oversight of major Greek life events, including Greek Week, rush, and mixers between fraternities. The primary goal of bringing back the IFC is to strengthen Greek life and present a united front, demonstrating the value of fraternities in fostering leadership, brotherhood, and community involvement on campus.
The council will be composed of three representatives from each fraternity, forming a board that will lead initiatives, enforce policies, and serve as a bridge between Greek life and the administration. This structure aims to promote collaboration among fraternity chapters and create a more self-governing system that ensures accountability and growth within the community.
For a significant period, the IFC was not utilized to its full potential. However, with its revival, there is an expectation that the fraternity community will experience a resurgence of self-governance and trust from the college administration.
The reestablishment of the IFC marks a pivotal moment for Greek life at Culver-Stockton College, as it seeks to build a stronger, more cohesive, and proactive fraternity system moving forward.
