Culver-Stockton College expands its Counseling and Wellness Department to include a new student counselor.
Cecelia Bell is joining Jill Miller as a resource for students on campus. However, Bell is an interesting case. Unlike Miller, she is not currently a licensed counselor.
A Hannibal native, Bell graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Counseling in Spring of 2024 from C-SC. Now, she has returned to work on her Master’s while also gaining real-world experience.
Bell is a part of the second group to go through Culver-Stockton’s Master of Arts in Counseling program. “It is a hybrid program. I have a cohort of a couple of people who are going through the program as well. We meet a couple of times during the week,” Bell explained, “We also meet over the summer to have labs.”
In addition to this program, Bell was chosen to work under Jill Miller as a counseling practical student. She is allowed to meet with and counsel students under Miller’s supervision. “I hope students are willing to come see me if they have any concerns or anything they want to talk about. I just want to be there for them.” Bell said.
While Bell does hope to go into clinical mental health over school counseling, she’s excited to see what this opportunity can provide her. “This can help me figure out what demographic I want to work with. It can give me actual experience with patients,” Bell said.
When asked for her reason for starting this program, Miller brought it back to the students. “The biggest complaint students have is not being able to get an appointment with me,” Miller explains, “[Bell] can be another resource for them.” Miller encourages students who are struggling to reach out to and make an appointment with Bell.
Students who are hoping to meet Bell can attend a Meet and Greet on Thursday, February 13th. Additional details below.
