Chris Huebotter of the Registrar’s Office at Culver-Stockton College (C-SC) says, “The Registrar’s Office encourages all students to request a degree audit during the junior year, preferably before registering for the first-semester senior year classes.” The Registrar’s Office, as well as academic advisors are open for all students to help guide them through the process and help them decide which steps to take next.
As the school year of 2024-2025 comes to an end, students need to check in with their academic advisors about their graduation requirements and degree audits.
A degree audit is an analysis of the progress each particular student has made in their tenure at college. These are important because it ensures students have all necessary classes to graduate.
“Academic advisors do a great job keeping students on track toward graduation, but having a degree audit done will ensure that all requirements have been checked for completion”, says Huebotter.
Other activities such as Academic Experience events (ACE events) are a necessity to graduate. Students at C-SC are required to attend 24 ACE events to graduate within their four academic years. Attending all 24 required events results in one credit hour towards your transcript. Additionally, something that differentiates C-SC from other schools is the class schedule layouts. C-SC runs a 12-3 week system which means out of 15 credit hours in a semester, 4 of the 5 classes occur during the first 12 weeks of the semester and the fifth class occurs during the last 3 weeks of the semester. The 12-3-week system can make it confusing when initially looking over class requirements, a degree audit helps simplify this process.
Not only are degree audits important for the junior and senior classes, they are also important for any student who is preparing to go on to obtain a Master’s degree. Most Master’s degrees require certain prerequisites and grades in order to be accepted into the program, and a degree audit can help determine what is needed to be accepted.
