On Wednesday March 12th, Culver-Stockton College (C-SC) hosted a Career Fair with a wide variety of organizations. The Career Fair at C-SC was able to provide students with invaluable network opportunities and practical experience. The Director of Career and Internship Services, Melissa Dubuque organized this event to facilitate professional interactions with various businesses with credits to enhance the educational value increasing the drive for students to attend. Positive student feedback from those in attendance greatly highlights the possibilities that come from Career Fairs.
Dubuque said, “The Career Fair provides an excellent opportunity for first-time job seekers to practice meeting and conversing with potential employers which enhances networking skills”. Dubuque was the organizer of this year’s Career Fair. It provided students with a chance to learn about various organizations and networks, while also making them eligible for Academic Experience Credits (ACE).
Kannon Kirk, senior in Business Administration, said, “It was a great event and experience seeing all these organizations come together to give the students an opportunity to engage with them. Missy (Melissa Dubuque) and C-SC did a great job at setting this up for us”.
Emma Raines, sophomore in Health Science, said, “I had no idea Graceland University offered a Physical Therapy program that I could get observation hours from”. The Career Fair was not only an opportunity for seniors seeking potential job opportunities, but also for underclassmen to get a feel of what is to come for them and all the different routes they can venture.
Not only business and school programs were in attendance but also organizations such as the Army. The Army Reserves explained they want to help those who are interested in serving in the Army understand that they are able to do it from their home. They do not always have to travel away from their family and loved ones. It is all about strong bonds with each other and with those that are surrounding them.
Zach Patterson, representing the C-SC Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) program, said, “I am happy to have this opportunity to share the importance of an MBA and all the information from businesses in the local area. We are here to help the students in any way we can”.
