Culver-Stockton College (C-SC) has made new inquiries regarding a new and improved parking space for Sperry Hall.
“We have received a couple of bids to resurface the circle drive at Sperry with asphalt and one bid for concrete”, says Troy Seals, Head of Maintenance.
Regarding the asphalt bids, it would be for tearing out the old asphalt and installing two to four inches of new asphalt. “We are interested in installing 4 inches to help accommodate the weight of the trash trucks that will also be driving on it”, says Seals.
Mikayla Gioia, sophomore in Psychology, stated, “When I lived in Sperry Hall last year, we were only allowed to park within the circle drive which did not have very many parking spaces, and we were not allowed to park in Wood or Stone Hall parking lots. Having the circle drive fixed up will help with damages to cars and allow a little bit more space for freshmen to park in”.
In order to improve accessibility and convenience, it is important that decision-makers take into account those that have experienced living there and what it was like for them.
Sperry residents are not the only ones that use this circle drive, Wood and Stone residents often use the circle in order to get to their residence halls. “The radius at the north end of the circle will also be changed to make it easier for traffic to go around the corner on the driveway. In the bids, we also included a section of broken concrete to be replaced at the bottom of the ramp that goes to the upper parking lot next to Wood Hall”, stated Seals.
Seals is eager to improve convenience and accessibility for all hall residents in this region of campus as well as staff/faculty members.
