For the first time in recent years, the Culver-Stockton College baseball team made the playoffs, capping off a season marked by determination, resilience, and standout performances on the field. Culver- Stockton baseball ended their three-year drought by sweeping Benedictine in a double header on April 26 of the 2024-25 season. C-SC finished the regular season with a 21-23 overall record and a 15-17 mark in the league, which was good for the seventh seed in the league. The Wildcats played Clarke which ended in a loss for C-SC. C-SC than went on to play Mount Mercy in the consolation bracket which led to the end of the 2024-25 season for the Wildcats.
According to Head Coach Brad Gyorkos “It feels really good to make playoffs. Three years is a long time, and I am happy that we made strides this year. I think that we have a good group coming in and our success should continue”. Gyorkos tallies a few key spots that helped the team make the playoffs, “There were a few moments that pushed us into becoming what we were. The one that comes to mind is the weekend at Mount Mercy. We played poorly. Had a good long conversation about it on Monday. We had to look ourselves in the mirror and talk about what we really wanted to do. From that moment on we played really good baseball.”
Ryan Jung a freshman pitcher majoring in sports management here at C-SC stated, “Beginning of the season was rough and we didn’t have enough team chemistry but towards the end we came along as a team and made conference and we are looking forward on getting back to the team and coaches and working toward making conference again next year.”
Wyatt Wright a junior outfielder majoring in sports management and minoring in coaching here at C-SC stated, “It was a great season, we started off 6-6 before entering conference play and we all knew that our first three conference series were going to be a tough challenge and honestly wasn’t our best stretch as we went 2-10, but one day at practice us the players just ran over and over because we weren’t playing to our potential. Everyone was frustrated we were blaming each other, making excuses and not playing as a team and looking ahead to next year we are going to be a young team, we lost 21 senior’s guys that we would love to have back for another year, but I really believe we will be good with some of the strong pitching we have coming in”.
The Wildcats are looking forward to next season and looking to be successful moving forward.
