The Student Government Association (SGA) is preparing to host another town hall meeting on April 1st at 7 pm. This marks the first time SGA has held a second town hall within the same academic year. It will be another chance for students to address any concerns they have about the school.
“The main goal of the town hall is to provide students a space to speak up, ask questions, and be heard by campus leadership. We want it to feel open and transparent, so students leave knowing their voice matters,” shared SGA president Caleb Gardner. “It gives us a chance to check in on what is working, what isn’t, and have those conversations while there is still time to make improvements.”
Gardner explains the purpose of a second town hall meeting: “The spring town hall is a follow-up to the fall one. It allows us to continue ongoing conversations, share updates, and address new concerns that have arisen since then. It is not meant to be a one-time event but a more ongoing process.”
The most common concerns among students have been the college’s money prioritization, HVAC issues, and discussions around Greek life. Where students might have concerns about life on campus, student attendance has been low (last meeting less than 20 students were in attendance). To increase participation, SGA has decided to make this event an ACE event.
Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage with campus leaders involved in student life, academics, and other campus operations. It will give students the chance to speak with them face-to-face instead of sending an email and waiting anxiously for a response.
“We are hoping to create honest, respectful, and productive dialogue between students and administrators. The goal is to better understand concerns and work toward solutions together” expressed Gardner. “Students should know this is an open space where they do not need to have everything perfectly prepared. If something is on their mind, they should feel comfortable bringing it up.”
SGA emphasizes that transparency is their priority, and they encourage students to attend and speak up. SGA believes these events can promote real changes on campus.
If you would like to attend the town hall, it will be held on April 1st at 7 pm in Meaders Lounge, located in the Gladys Crown Center.
