The Culver-Stockton College women’s soccer team started off its season Monday night with a home win against Waldorf University, 1-0.

The ‘Cats defeated Waldorf in the 2017 season, 5-0. After last season’s record of 9-9-2, the Wildcats came out with a strong defense to begin the 2019 campaign.

Each game different players step up and take control. Today it was Amanda Gebheim.

— Coach Tomlinson

Waldorf only attempted two shots in the whole game, while Culver-Stockton had a total of fourteen.  Senior All-American Kehley Bitzas had a shutout game, one of many in her college career.

The main highlight of the game was Amanda Gebheim heading in the winning goal, assisted by Jody Ellis with a corner kick.  Head Coach Tyler Tomlinson recognized Gebheim’s accomplishment: “Each game different players step up and take control. Today it was Amanda Gebheim. She really stepped up big for the team. Next game it could be anyone. That’s what is special about this group.”

The Wildcats  take on the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose University on Wednesday at 5 p.m., along with a game Saturday at Lincoln Christian University at 2 p.m.
