If you’re wondering whether or not the Cat’s Pause more commonly known as CP will be returning to regular hours, according to Lindsey Dover (Director of Dining Services) “Shortened hours are hopefully temporary and a proposal has been made to senior leadership to change proposed CP manager wages in order to attract more applicants.” Fortunately there are some alternatives for students when the CP is down at night as according to Vice President of Student Experience Angela Royal, there is the Campus Cupboard which is located in the Student Life Office; “If you know in advance they need an item and it’s during normal business hours, you can just come in and grab something.”
There is also the option for students to have Campus Safety let them in to grab something between the hours of 8:30-10 pm at night, however Royal explains, “supplies are limited so please take only what you need”. An alternative to CP would be the Dining Hall open from 5:30 to 7:30 & the Lab, open 6pm to 9pm. This which appeals to some students, like Courtney Zane , because it “offers healthier food options like wraps, salads & bagels.” However Gracyn Stewart, a current student worker at the Lab says that they “tend to run out of items much quicker than before due to more students coming to the lab at dinner”, so while this may be a viable alternative it’s not a solution.
According to the Director Of Dining Services, Lindsey Dover “there is hope to change student worker packages to encourage students to work in dining services”, which likely is another reason for the lack of workers as according to a current student worker at CP “the workplace is currently understaffed, under trained & under paid” which is a factor in the inconsistent menu. Angela Royal states that, ” Dining Services offers students flexible hours & until more student workers are hired, we unfortunately will have to continue to operate at reduced hours.”
