Over the past few seasons, Culver-Stockton College’s women’s volleyball has seen several different head coaches. In the past four years, there have been four coaches, all of whom left for their own reasons. That cycle started again and the Wildcats have turned to a new head coach for the current season.
With the hiring of new Head Coach Emma Miller, the problem has been resolved. She joins “The Hill” after three seasons as head coach at Brescia University in Owensboro, KY. She will be replacing Joshua Branan after he finished with a 9-22 record during the 2025 season.
Coach Miller had many accolades that were very beneficial during the hiring process. She also originates from Augusta, Ill., which, regarding hiring her and discovering how close that is, Athletic Director Patrick Atwell stated that “ since she is from the area and has family in the area, it was very attractive.”
After Coach Miller’s arrival, senior Lauren Bloom gave her thoughts on their practices with Coach Miller: “I really like how she creates practice plans ahead of time that she’d share with me where there would be a focus at the top with what the practice is to work on.” The team has shown positive feedback on Coach Miller’s practice style and dedication to what the team needs to work on.
“I’m already seeing a big difference from last season; the speed and intensity of practices have been higher, and we are leaving practices feeling like we are getting better,” stated junior Victoria Pollard.
“It’s a lot easier to connect with the girls, being fresh from the experience of playing volleyball myself. I’m able to see what they’re going through and see their perspective on things, especially in college and knowing how to connect with them,” stated Coach Miller.
Everyone involved with the volleyball program has shown excitement for Miller and what she has to offer. There has been a lot of positive feedback from players on how spring practices have gone. They are now looking forward to how the fall season will play out and to keeping Coach Miller, in an effort to build a team culture.
