Students and staff of the Wildcat Wire digital news site recently took home awards during the annual Missouri College Media Association (MCMA) conference.

Ashley Miller won first place in News Photography for her picture of students and staff attending a peaceful protest.  Abigail Heinecke won first place for her Entertainment Review of “‘The Vagina Monologues’ Hit the Black Box Stage.”

In Division 3, the Wildcat Wire staff won second place in Best Website.  The award named editor-in-chief Hailey Frutiger, managing editor Danielle Thurman, and arts and entertainment editor Abigail Heinecke.

The Wildcat Wire digital news site debuted in August, 2018 and continues student journalism at Culver-Stockton College in the electronic era.  The sister publication The Megaphone has been publishing a print edition for over 100 years, and is now printed twice during the academic year, highlighting each semester’s activities.

Advisor and instructor Fred Berger is proud of the staff, especially during the challenges of dealing with a pandemic.  “These students kept up responsible campus journalism during a really tough time.”  Berger continues “I’m glad to see their work has gotten the attention of their peers in Missouri.”

The Missouri College Media Association represents college newspapers and yearbooks in Missouri, and holds its annual conference every spring at college campuses across the state.
