CANTON, Mo. Culver-Stockton College’s Student Experience Office is updating campus facilities and services to create a more student-focused environment.
The division, which oversees services including residence life, dining, student engagement, career services, counseling and wellness, and student success, has introduced several changes this year. Among them are expanded student spaces, a new Counseling and Wellness Center, and a more accessible system for finding on campus jobs.
Sarah Loveless Hall, operations specialist for Student Experience, said many of the division’s current staff members are new to their positions and are working to reshape the student experience.
“We are trying to move it in the direction of having a greater focus on the students,” Loveless Hall said.
Several campus spaces have been adjusted to give students more places to spend time between classes. Changes have been made in the Cat’s Pause and throughout portions of the Gladys Crown Center, with the goal of creating more comfortable areas for students to gather and socialize.
Hammocks are also now available year-round and no longer require students to check them out, according to Loveless Hall.
The college has also reorganized its counseling services into a Counseling and Wellness Center located in Johann Memorial Library. The center includes a relaxation room equipped with a massage chair and aromatherapy facilities.
Changes to dining services are also being considered, although some improvements are still in the planning stages. Loveless Hall said equipment issues and staffing challenges have affected the implementation of some changes.
Another change involves student employment. Job applications have been moved to Wildcats Connect, allowing students to find available positions in one location instead of contacting individual departments.
Loveless Hall’s own experience as a Culver-Stockton student influenced her decision to join the Student Experience division. She said she wanted to contribute to the positive changes she knew were coming to campus.
